Meri Nikula is a performing artist and experimental vocalist whose work fuses contemporary performance and extended vocal techniques. Her healing work combines somatic practices, energy channeling and embodied vocal expression. Her multi-dimensional worldview is open for a mystical understanding of life while staying deeply grounded on Earth.
Graduating at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague (BA, 2007), she debuted with a solo performance combining voice, body, and video. The performance got a wide range of interested viewers, including her highness Queen Beatrix. Nikula has since cultivated a unique interdisciplinary practice that merges the raw physicality of performance art with the emotional depth of sound.
Her performances are immersive and transformative, often unfolding as vocal journeys that challenge conventional boundaries between performer and audience. Drawing inspiration from years spent living abroad, especially in the Northern areas such as in Japan, Iceland, and Arctic Norway, her work channels the spirit of naturally powerful environments into visceral, site-sensitive pieces that reflect a deep attunement to energetic connections and presence.
Nikula's art inhabits the space where the voice becomes movement, and the body becomes instrument—an ever-evolving expression of human vulnerability and resilience.
